Mayor's Proclamation Honoring WABA's Retiring Executive Director, Linda Ashbury; The Healing Garden "West Is Best" Event Series Announcement

This week, we had the opportunity to celebrate the retirement of Linda Asbury, the Executive Director of WABA. Hosted by our friends at Cafe Jolie, the event was attended by business owners, city leaders, and community partners. The evening served as a tribute to someone whose legacy has profoundly impacted our district and association.

Last night, the Mayor presented Linda with a Proclamation that beautifully encapsulates her spirit and passion for the West End and Alameda. I wanted to share those words here:

"Linda Asbury has been at the helm of the West Alameda Business Association as Executive Director for the past seven years, steering it through transformative times. Under her dynamic leadership, WABA has undergone a remarkable metamorphosis, forging strong partnerships with the City and merchants to navigate the challenges of the pandemic and emerge even stronger.

Linda's passion and dedication have been the driving force behind numerous beautification initiatives throughout the district. From vibrant murals adorning Webster Street to the serene oasis of the Healing Garden, her vision has left an indelible mark on the community landscape. Tirelessly advocating for the interests of her merchants, Linda has earned widespread respect and admiration from both colleagues and peers alike.

As Linda Asbury embarks on a well-deserved retirement, the City of Alameda extends its heartfelt gratitude for her unwavering commitment and exemplary service to the West Alameda BusinessAssociation and the residents of Alameda. Here's to a retirement filled with fulfillment and joy."

Thank you, Linda. I am humbled to follow in your footsteps and grateful for the time we've spent together over these past few months.

The good news is that Linda isn't going far; she'll be volunteering at The Thrifty Kitty starting in June. I fully expect to get a heads-up when the really good stuff comes in.

Speaking of The Thrifty Kitty, have you met their new Store Manager, Madden Lockin? Originally from Tennessee, Madden made their way to the Bay Area via Austin, Portland, Providence, and Oakland -- thrift shopping all the way. We had a chance to meet and chat, and I can say, this is a purrfect match. Welcome to the neighborhood, Madden.

Finally, mark your calendars because WABA is launching a new FREE concert series in The Healing Garden, and you won’t want to miss it. West is Best kicks off on June 16 from 4-6 PM with Pop Rocks. What better way to celebrate Dad than with an A-list dance band delivering high-energy hits from the 80s and 90s?
