Greetings from Elissa Glickman, Interim E.D.; Rose’s Sandwich Shop in the SF Chronicle; Cape 7 Cafe new hours; Alameda Restaurant Week (March 1-10)!

Thank you for making my first two weeks on the job so welcoming! There are big tasks ahead. I’m looking forward to working with our businesses, partners at the City, and our residents to build on our previous successes and grow our district.

I especially want to thank the outgoing Executive Director, Linda Asbury, for her enthusiastic support, countless introductions, and on-the-job training. Linda’s leadership of WABA, especially through the pandemic, has been nothing short of heroic. She, along with the WABA Board, where on the front lines, working and advocating for the Association, and because of them, our district emerged stronger and ready to look to the future. I thank her for her confidence in me, leadership and unwavering support of me, as her interim successor.

A little about me.

I relocated to the Bay Area in July of 2021. Prior to that, I ran a historic, 1400-seat performing arts and entertainment center in Southern California. As part of my role, I was heavily involved in both our Merchants Association and Business Improvement District and understand the important role they play in supporting businesses and advocating for critical issues like cleanliness, safety, marketing, and walkability.

There’s a steep learning curve, and I hope you’ll all be patient with me as I navigate through all I need to learn and know. Each week I have an opportunity to write this column and brag about our district. I hope you’ll help out by submitting ideas, openings, and exciting happenings for me to write about. As I close, I want to thank you again for supporting our district and the important work we do. I also want to celebrate some new businesses in our district. I’m sure there will be more in the coming months!

I recently saw Rose’s Sandwich Shop (1552 Webster Ave.) got a shout-out from the SF Chronicle for their new shop serving up some awesome sandwiches. Also, this month Cape 7 Cafe (1465 Webster Ave.) is now open for breakfast/lunch from 7-3 and late-night from 4-11. I hope you’ll swing by, say hello, and have a nosh.
