How Close is Alameda to Licensing Cannabis Businesses?
Alameda City Council took several steps in late 2017 to permit a limited umber of cannabis businesses in the city. The Council voted to allow four categories of cannabis business in the near future: one cultivation nursery, four manufacturers, two testing laboratories, and two medicinal dispensaries. Due to the limited number of permits, City Council determined that potential businesses would be selected through a Request for Proposals process. On March 6, 2018, City staff presented a draft RFP to the City Council. You can find the staff report and the RFP here. City Staff will be working with a City Council subcommittee to refine the evaluation criteria and recommend a selection panel. Staff will return to the Council in about a month with a final RFP. The RFP will be issued soon thereafter. Over the summer, cannabis business permits will begin to be issued and some cannabis businesses may be open by the end of the year.
