Chinese New Year Celebration on Feb. 17th at 11am; corner of Haight/Webster

The free, family friendly Chinese New Year celebration will take place at the corner of Webster and Haight, the entrance to the weekly Farmers Market. Entertainment includes two Lion Dance troupes from the Toi Shan Family Association. The Lion Dance is a form of traditional dance in Chinese culture and other Asian countries in which performers mimic a lion’s movements in a lion costume to bring good luck and fortune. Following the Lion Dance there will be a Chinese Traditional Dance, Tai Zhi performance and children dances.

A craft table for kids will be hosted by the Farmers’ Market and WABA will distribute Red Envelopes for good luck and Year of the Dog giveaways. And with the Year of the Dog theme, FAAS will participate with dogs looking for a good home.

Webster Street favorite, East Ocean Seafood Restaurant, will be providing appetizers for the celebration. This family owned business has been serving the Bay Area for over 30 years.

The event will be produced in partnership with the West End Arts & Entertainment District, the Toi Shan Family Association and Pacific Coast Farmers’ Market Association (Alameda/Webster Farmers Market).
