Proposed Changes Affecting Local Businesses
On September 19, 2017, the City Council will consider adopting a revised Alameda Municipal Code section 4-4 re: disposable foodware. The revised ordinance would require food vendors a) to provide straws to customers only upon the customer’s request, and b) to use reusable, recyclable, or compostable to-go food ware. This item’s legislative history can be found here and here.   Alameda food-vendor businesses will receive a mailer from Public Works in August inviting them to provide input on the proposed ordinance changes to the City Council at the September 18 meeting.   WABA is seeking input from members: Would you support or oppose the City of Alameda requiring that food vendors only provide straws to customers upon the customer’s request? Would you support or oppose the City of Alameda requiring that food vendors use to-go food ware that is reusable, recyclable, or compostable? Does your association board have any input to share on the attached ordinance revisions? Contact Liam Garland, Acting Director for Alameda Public Works, at LGarland@alamedaca.gov.
