2nd Friday Artwalk in Alameda
5/14/2016 1:00:00 AM UTC - 5/14/2016 4:00:00 AM UTC
Webster Street, Alameda, CA 94501, California, 94501

The West End has always lent itself, quite naturally, to Arts & Entertainment with Live music, festivals and multi-media art shows.  This month's 2nd Friday Artwalk is being held Friday, May 13th and on our very own Webster Street. Restaurants, bars, salons, and other retail spaces have joined respectable art galleries and studios in this once a month celebration of the arts. Businesses such as the Fireside Lounge, Cookiebar, Hairtech, 1400, WesCafé, West End Crepe and the newly re-opened Chicha Bistro have agreed to showcase artwork Friday 5/13. There will be over 15 craft vendors and live musical acts who will be setting up shop in front of some of the local businesses.  The participation from Webster St. merchants join east end galleries & businesses, Studio 23, 3Dot Gallery, The Alley, Redux Studios & Gallery, and The Frank Bette Center for the Arts, Alameda Island Brewing, Lucky 13 & Vintiq to showcase artwork.
Jessica Warren, Wesley Warren, Sara Edge, Dave Sylvester, Sandy Russell, and Jack Gonzales are just some of the local artists who have been involved in the vision of this community event. They believe art can create and inspire any and all communities as well as empower them. With music, food, friends and family that enjoy art and entertainment, Alameda's 2nd Friday Artwalk is just one more way Alameda’s West End is becoming more lively and vibrant.

2nd Annual Veterans Job & Resource Fair
In honor of Veterans Day 2017, the USS Hornet Museum is hosting a 2nd Annual Job & Resource Fair for veterans, military families and active military soon to be transitioning to civilian jobs. This event is an opportunity to meet face-to-face with top Bay Area companies from a cross-section of industries ready to hire. Even if you are not familiar with a company or hiring agency, still visit their booth as they may have the right job waiting for you at their corporate office despite being, for example, a retail company. Visit our website before the big day to see which employers are participating. Bring copies of your resume, pens and confirmation of your registration. Come ready to be interviewed. Registering is important for faster on-boarding and to give us an accurate head count for refreshments and supplies. Your registration provides an opportunity to tour the ship in between seeing recruiters, as well as admission on Saturday, November 11th for Veterans Day. Due to security reasons, please do not bring large bags or backpacks if at all possible with you. Please share this opportunity with other veterans and military spouses you know looking for work. Thank you. FAQs Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event? I.D. required to match name on registration. Bring your military card or form DD214 (if you still have it), just in case an employer or service provider asks. You may register at the door but we strongly encourage advance registration so we know you are attending. What are my transport/parking options getting to the event? Free parking lot in front of the ship, including many handicap stalls. There will be a free shuttle from the College of Alameda to the ship. How can I contact the organizer with any questions? Outreach@uss-hornet.org. For more information about the museum, visit www.uss-hornet.org. Dress code? If at all possible, dress professionally as if going on an interview. If planning to explore other parts of the ship beyond the Hangar Deck, we discourage wearing open toe shoes for your safety as reaching those decks or levels will require using a ladder. Is there a free shuttle? Yes! Michael's Transportation (one of the employers participating) will run a free shuttle on a continuous loop between the Admin Building of the College of Alameda to the Hornet and back again. This location is near the corner of Webster Street and Atlantic Avenue, a major stop for buses in Alameda.
