Construction on Webster Street - Sanitary Sewer Replacement Project
Construction on Webster for about 2 weeks
The City of Alameda will be replacing the sanitary sewer main on Webster Street, between Buena Vista and Atlantic. The sewer has reached its useful life and requires replacement to ensure continued reliable sewer service. Your sewer and water service will not be interrupted during construction; however, we are notifying you of the work as you may be impacted by the construction.

TIMELINE: Construction has started (and scheduled to last approximately 2 weeks). Ranger Pipelines, the City’s contractor, will post “No Parking” signs 72 hours in advance of planned work to advise when the work will begin and parking restrictions will become effective. Standard work hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., although work may have to go a little later on any given day to ensure sewer service remains uninterrupted.

POSSIBLE INCONVENIENCES: The City will make every effort to minimize disruptions; however, there may be traffic delays, temporary loss of parking, an increase in noise levels, and some dust during construction. Traffic will remain open in both directions on Webster Street. For expediency, the City has opted to use a trenchless method for the pipe replacement; however where each sewer lateral pipe connects to the sewer main, we will need to dig a pit to make the reconnection. The City will restore site conditions to as they were prior to construction starting. The City appreciates your cooperation and patience, and apologizes in advance for any inconvenience this project may cause. Questions or information regarding the project can be directed to me at the contact information noted below. This project is funded by the Sewer Enterprise Fund.

2nd Annual Veterans Job & Resource Fair
In honor of Veterans Day 2017, the USS Hornet Museum is hosting a 2nd Annual Job & Resource Fair for veterans, military families and active military soon to be transitioning to civilian jobs. This event is an opportunity to meet face-to-face with top Bay Area companies from a cross-section of industries ready to hire. Even if you are not familiar with a company or hiring agency, still visit their booth as they may have the right job waiting for you at their corporate office despite being, for example, a retail company. Visit our website before the big day to see which employers are participating. Bring copies of your resume, pens and confirmation of your registration. Come ready to be interviewed. Registering is important for faster on-boarding and to give us an accurate head count for refreshments and supplies. Your registration provides an opportunity to tour the ship in between seeing recruiters, as well as admission on Saturday, November 11th for Veterans Day. Due to security reasons, please do not bring large bags or backpacks if at all possible with you. Please share this opportunity with other veterans and military spouses you know looking for work. Thank you. FAQs Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event? I.D. required to match name on registration. Bring your military card or form DD214 (if you still have it), just in case an employer or service provider asks. You may register at the door but we strongly encourage advance registration so we know you are attending. What are my transport/parking options getting to the event? Free parking lot in front of the ship, including many handicap stalls. There will be a free shuttle from the College of Alameda to the ship. How can I contact the organizer with any questions? Outreach@uss-hornet.org. For more information about the museum, visit www.uss-hornet.org. Dress code? If at all possible, dress professionally as if going on an interview. If planning to explore other parts of the ship beyond the Hangar Deck, we discourage wearing open toe shoes for your safety as reaching those decks or levels will require using a ladder. Is there a free shuttle? Yes! Michael's Transportation (one of the employers participating) will run a free shuttle on a continuous loop between the Admin Building of the College of Alameda to the Hornet and back again. This location is near the corner of Webster Street and Atlantic Avenue, a major stop for buses in Alameda.
