Webster Street in West Alameda arguably has the largest variety of cuisine concentrated in the smallest geographical area.  Within just a few short blocks, you’ll find restaurants serving up food from around the world.  Whether it’s fast food or fine dining, comfort food or dim sum delicacies, a dining expedition on the West side of the island can take you to Mexico, Thailand, Vietnam, China, India, Italy, Japan or France.  And at nearby Spirits Alley at the Alameda Point, local wineries and brewers are crafting beverages that get worldwide attention.

The annual Wine & Dine event is a great way to explore this wide variety of dining and drinking options with a showcase of five selected restaurants and local wine and beer.  The event begins at 5:30 pm with a reception at Otaez Mexican Restaurant where diners can taste a variety of beverages, sample appetizers from the participating restaurants, enjoy music and mingle.  A free raffle will be held, with prizes from West Alameda merchants.  The reception is complete at 7:00pm and diners then decide which restaurant they would like to go to for their entrée and complete their dining experience.

Hands Across Alameda
President’s Day: Monday, February 20, 3 PM

Organized over social media and promoted by the City, this Monday, February 20, residents of Alameda and surrounding cities will meet along the Alameda beach to create a human chain.

“This is not a fundraiser,” remarked community organizer John-Michael Kyono. “It is simply a gesture of support and unity for all residents in Alameda and beyond.”

Where:
Residents should gather along the shoreline in an effort to have the chain stretch as far and wide as possible. There will be four main meet-up locations:
Crown Memorial Beach Grand Avenue at Shoreline Park Street at Shoreline Bay Trail in front of Harbor Bay Club
When:
Monday, February 20 (President’s Day) at 3 PM

Posted By: SpeedPro Imaging East Bay
SpeedPro East Bay is proud to be participating in next month's 2nd Friday Art Walk by showing off the work from the kids of Alameda Arts.  Alameda Arts is an after school program run by Kate Meade and Hazel Seiden, two fun-loving moms who share their love of art and passion for crafts.  This program allows kids of varying ages to express their creative side through art and other activities.

We have joined forces with them by donating all of our excess and scrap materials that would otherwise get thrown out and instead, the kids are able to make better use of them.  Our 2nd Friday stop during the art walk will showcase the "recycled art" that these kids have worked on using those materials.

Come out and support your local artists and the kids of Alameda Arts at SpeedPro East Bay during the 2nd Friday Alameda Artwalk on February 10th, 2017 from 6pm to 9pm.

Hope to see you there!

The event will focus on removing litter from the shore and parking lot along the estuary, west of the Main Street Dog Park.  Local Bay Area advocacy group, San Francisco Baykeeper, will also be on-site to educate the public about the importance of keeping our water free from plastic litter and debris. If you would like to participate in the Shoreline Cleanup event, please pre-register at https://alamedacleanup2017.eventbrite.com. Attendees under the age of 18 are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult.    This is the second year Alameda Point Partners has collaborated with the City of Alameda for this clean water focused community activity. Last year’s event attracted more than 175 attendees who collected over a half ton of trash. With miles of shoreline, Alameda has a special opportunity to help keep our waterways clean, protecting fish, wildlife, and aquatic habitats. Participating in the community cleanup is a great way to help prevent bay and ocean pollution, meet your neighbors, and show community support. Service credit is available upon request.   The City of Alameda Public Works Department’s Clean Water Program fosters an appreciation of the local environment, inspiring people to do their part to prevent storm water runoff and litter pollution during everyday activities. It's not pleasant, it's not ideal and believe it or not, it's not "the norm." You don't have to suffer from this.  No more avoiding going to the movies. No more avoiding long car trips. No more wearing pads. No more multiple changes of underwear in one day. No more leaking when you laugh (takes all the pleasure out of it, or makes you laugh harder), sneeze (brace yourself), or cough (bring on the hardy all-out cough).  Finding out why you may be experiencing incontinence (you might be surprised) Learning a bit of anatomy about your lady parts so you can learn how to better control them (ahem, yes, we can) Learning and practicing yoga poses and breath techniques to either relax or strengthen the pelvic floor muscles (you might be gripping and over-Kegeling, making things worse) Having fun with a community of ladies experiencing the same thing as you (it's more common than you think) Getting back to doing the things that you love without fear of wetness! (ahh, what a relief) 90 minutes of instruction, education, practice with  Tianna Meriage-Reiter, PT, WHC Handouts to complement your learning  Plush ball to keep so you can continue to build awareness of your pelvic floor Yoga mats and props supplied but you are always willing to bring your own Tea and light snacks after the workshop (non-bladder irritants, of course!) Tools to take with you and start using right away (priceless) Ready to say YES or have questions about whether this is appropriate for you? Contact Tianna HERE

The West End has always lent itself, quite naturally, to Arts & Entertainment with Live music, festivals and multi-media art shows.  This month's 2nd Friday Artwalk is being held Friday, May 13th and on our very own Webster Street. Restaurants, bars, salons, and other retail spaces have joined respectable art galleries and studios in this once a month celebration of the arts. Businesses such as the Fireside Lounge, Cookiebar, Hairtech, 1400, WesCafé, West End Crepe and the newly re-opened Chicha Bistro have agreed to showcase artwork Friday 5/13. There will be over 15 craft vendors and live musical acts who will be setting up shop in front of some of the local businesses.  The participation from Webster St. merchants join east end galleries & businesses, Studio 23, 3Dot Gallery, The Alley, Redux Studios & Gallery, and The Frank Bette Center for the Arts, Alameda Island Brewing, Lucky 13 & Vintiq to showcase artwork.

Jessica Warren, Wesley Warren, Sara Edge, Dave Sylvester, Sandy Russell, and Jack Gonzales are just some of the local artists who have been involved in the vision of this community event. They believe art can create and inspire any and all communities as well as empower them. With music, food, friends and family that enjoy art and entertainment, Alameda's 2nd Friday Artwalk is just one more way Alameda’s West End is becoming more lively and vibrant.

For maps, registration and more information about 2nd Friday Artwalk in Alameda please visit fridayartwalk.com.

In 2012, Villacorta set out on a cross-country adventure to discover the origins of, and best uses for some the most potent foods on the planet-Peruvian superfoods. Armed with the latest scientific research and a hearty appetite, he traveled from the fertile farmlands of the Andes, to the depths of the Amazonian jungle to explore these foods. Along the way, he visited open markets, restaurants, humble food stands, and family kitchens, stopping to gather stories and recipes of local chefs, food bloggers, farmers, fishermen and abuelitas.

Peruvian Power Foods introduces 18 incredible edibles along with their anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, detoxifying, immunity-boosting and disease-fighting health benefits. While it is a collection of recipes, it is also a tribute to Peruvian culture as well as health and wellness. This book showcases 101 recipes, ranging from simple smoothies, snacks and salads, to hearty entrees and irresistible desserts. Manuel’s recipes are great for all skill levels and cater not only to omnivores, but also those who are vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free.
