2nd Annual Veterans Job & Resource Fair
11/9/2017 6:00:00 PM UTC - 11/9/2017 10:00:00 PM UTC
Posted By: West Alameda Business Association
In honor of Veterans Day 2017, the USS Hornet Museum is hosting a 2nd Annual Job & Resource Fair for veterans, military families and active military soon to be transitioning to civilian jobs. This event is an opportunity to meet face-to-face with top Bay Area companies from a cross-section of industries ready to hire. Even if you are not familiar with a company or hiring agency, still visit their booth as they may have the right job waiting for you at their corporate office despite being, for example, a retail company. Visit our website before the big day to see which employers are participating.

Bring copies of your resume, pens and confirmation of your registration. Come ready to be interviewed. Registering is important for faster on-boarding and to give us an accurate head count for refreshments and supplies. Your registration provides an opportunity to tour the ship in between seeing recruiters, as well as admission on Saturday, November 11th for Veterans Day.

Due to security reasons, please do not bring large bags or backpacks if at all possible with you.

Please share this opportunity with other veterans and military spouses you know looking for work. Thank you.

FAQs
Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?
I.D. required to match name on registration. Bring your military card or form DD214 (if you still have it), just in case an employer or service provider asks. You may register at the door but we strongly encourage advance registration so we know you are attending.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
Free parking lot in front of the ship, including many handicap stalls. There will be a free shuttle from the College of Alameda to the ship.

How can I contact the organizer with any questions? Outreach@uss-hornet.org. For more information about the museum, visit www.uss-hornet.org.

Dress code?
If at all possible, dress professionally as if going on an interview. If planning to explore other parts of the ship beyond the Hangar Deck, we discourage wearing open toe shoes for your safety as reaching those decks or levels will require using a ladder.

Is there a free shuttle?
Yes! Michael's Transportation (one of the employers participating) will run a free shuttle on a continuous loop between the Admin Building of the College of Alameda to the Hornet and back again. This location is near the corner of Webster Street and Atlantic Avenue, a major stop for buses in Alameda.

Flight Deck Main Stage:
Steady Rollin Band (Traditional Bluegrass) 3pm - 3:45pm
Bio: The Steady Rollin’ Band, Hailing from all over the SF Bay Area, The Steady Rollin’ band brings their own unique twist to traditional and modern bluegrass and acoustic music. Covering the gambit from originals to familiar old standards, SRB’s vocal harmonies and driving rhythm will get your feet tapping and your heart pumping.

Tempest (Celtic Rock) 4:15pm – 5:30pm
Bio: Since forming in 1988, Tempest has delivered a globally-renowned hybrid of high-energy Folk Rock fusing Irish reels, Scottish ballads, Norwegian influences and other world music elements. The last 28 years have seen the San Francisco Bay Area based act release fifteen critically acclaimed CDs and play more than 2,000 gigs. It's also enjoyed an evolving line-up that's enabled musicianship and creativity to rise with each new member.

Swingin' Blue Stars (Vocal Jazz) 6pm - 6:45pm
The Swingin' Blue Stars is a group of talented singers from the East SF Bay area. We perform close harmony, swing style music made popular by 1940’s female vocal groups such as the Andrews Sisters. We sing and dance to “people-pleasing” music, mixing saucy and romantic WWII tunes that appeal to a variety of audiences, whether young or elderly.

Stompy Jones (Swing/Blues) 7:15pm – 8:30pm
Little David Rose's thumpin' stand-up bass, the double-shuffle drumming of Lee Beary, and the bounce piano of Scott Lawrence provide the rhythmic foundation of the band's jump style. Riffing on top is the trumpet sound of Robert Dehlinger and Jeff "Erv" Ervin on the saxophone. These two fellas create the fireworks of vintage rhythm and blues. The charming Glen Earl Brown Jr on vocals and have become a trademark of Stompy Jones. KQED, California Report interviewed Stompy Jones band leader & bass player, Little David Rose about his original San Francisco song "New Direction", take a listen!

The Soiled Dove Comes to the Big Top at Alameda Point
6/10/2017 2:30:00 AM UTC - 7/2/2017 2:30:00 AM UTC
Posted By: West Alameda Business Association
A circus-infused dinner theatre set in a reincarnation of Barbary Coast's
red light district. Vau de Vire Society presents The Soiled Dove!

Show dates are Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 pm from June 9th through July 1st

From the co-creators of The Edwardian Ball, New Bohemia NYE, Lagunitas Beer Circus, and a decade of San Francisco's most creatively outrageous nightlife events comes an immersive, circus-infused, dinner-theater experience that will titillate your every sense.

The Soiled Dove all takes place under the Tortona Big Top, our magnificent 12,000 square foot Italian circus tent sitting on the water's edge at The Point Alameda, with spectacular views of San Francisco.

Set amidst a thematic backdrop inspired by San Francisco's notorious Barbary Coast era, guests can expect an engaging evening filled with danger, decadence, world-renowned performance and an innovative culinary spread worthy of royalty by San Francisco based Work of Art.

Live musical accompaniment and arrangements will be provided by the famed Jazz Mafia / Realistic Orchestra with surprise guest cameos each evening.

Drink tantalizing libations at the Soiled Dove Saloon, crafted by San Francisco's own Monarch Beverage Catering.

You will indulge in a world of decadence perfectly suited for those in search of an adventurous escapade into San Francisco's scandalous history. Guests are encouraged to submerge themselves in the revelry by putting a little (or a lot) of effort into their attire…styles that cover Victorian, Edwardian, 49er, Harlots, Crimps or their most stylish period couture.

Welcome to The Soiled Dove!

Posted By: SpeedPro Imaging East Bay
SpeedPro East Bay is proud to be participating in next month's 2nd Friday Art Walk by showing off the work from the kids of Alameda Arts.  Alameda Arts is an after school program run by Kate Meade and Hazel Seiden, two fun-loving moms who share their love of art and passion for crafts.  This program allows kids of varying ages to express their creative side through art and other activities.

We have joined forces with them by donating all of our excess and scrap materials that would otherwise get thrown out and instead, the kids are able to make better use of them.  Our 2nd Friday stop during the art walk will showcase the "recycled art" that these kids have worked on using those materials.

Come out and support your local artists and the kids of Alameda Arts at SpeedPro East Bay during the 2nd Friday Alameda Artwalk on February 10th, 2017 from 6pm to 9pm.

Hope to see you there!
